Enchanted Vista Iris Society Annual Iris Show “An Iris Holiday”, Saturday, May 4, 2024,  Sabana Grande Recreation Center   4110 Sabana Grande Avenue, SE, Rio Rancho, NM.  Entries include the horticulture division, artistic designs (flower arrangements, must include irises), educational displays, and iris photography division   Entries in all divisions are open to public participation with entries taken from 7:00 AM to 10:30 AM.  Containers for the horticulture division is provided by the society.  Judging follows from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM   Show Open to the public 1:00 – 4:00 PM   No entry fee .  For further information please call Robin Kishbaugh at (505) 550-9352.

Over the years EVIS have had  many programs on  artistic arrangements including hands-on demonstrations.  These artistic design programs and demonstrations are provided as a means to encourage more of EVIS members to try their hand at creating something beautiful and interesting for EVIS shows. Their first iris show in 2012 had the theme “Enchanted Centennial: commerating the centennial of New Mexico’s statehood.

There shows have been at the recreation center located on Sabana Grande.  The facility is quite large and is very light and bright.  It allows for more room needed for the preparation of EVIS horticulture and artistic segments of the show. 

In recent years they have added a Photography Division to the shows.  There are People’s Choice Award voted by the public for the artistic division and irises.

Our September meeting provides a great time for the Show Awards and Iris Raffle and highly anticipated suspense of which new iris we will be picking for our awards. Several years ago, we voted to discontinue awarding our show winners with iris artifacts, but rather to receive a new iris for our efforts.  After all, irises are and always will be what we’re about anyway.
