This year’s
state convention was hosted by the Mesilla Valley Iris Society September 23-25.
The guest speaker and judges trainer was Paul Black of Mid-America Irises. A potluck
was held Friday September 23 at MVIS president’s house Scarlett Ayres. Everyone
had good food and enjoyed the mild New Mexican autumn evening.
A big thanks
to our presenters Jeff Anderson, Dona Ana County horticulturist, Carol
Sutherland, state entomologist, Michael Melendriz of Soil Secrets and Cindy
Riveria who specializes in Arils and Arilbreds. You can find links to Carol’s presentation
on bugs and Jeff’s presentation on basic soil nutrients on the left side of
this page. Michael fascinating talk on
soil microbiology can be found at the Soil Secrets web site SoilSecrets.com. Soil biology is something most of haven’t
considered.
Paul Black
also gets a big thanks for his presentation on Mid
America Gardens. Everyone enjoyed his
training session on judging Irises in the gardening. Know it and Grow it.
